Michael was assigned for the 10+ years to the Albany Dougherty Drug Unit, the Albany Police Department, and the Gang Task Force as their legal advisor so as to provide legal advice on the proper way to proceed with investigations.
Michael was a first responder for the D.A.'s Office to all Murder Scenes in Dougherty County from 2014 through 2022. This led to him seeing first hand the destruction that crime is doing to our communities, as well as understanding the pressures that local law enforcement is under.
Having developed a specialty in Asset Forfeiture Proceedings, Michael was instrumental in the seizure and forfeiture of millions of dollars of assets which became the property of local law enforcement agencies.
Michael has served in the following capacities during his legal career:
South Georgia District Attorney's Office
2011-2012
Attorney General of Guam, Sex Crimes Unit
2010-2011

Prior to that he spent more than a decade serving in the Dougherty County District Attorney's Office where he achieved the rank of
Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney.
Michael knows that we need Justice for Albany.
Known for his honesty, integrity, and desire to act as a servant leader, Michael understands Dougherty County.
Michael has demonstrated his love and compassion for all persons through his extensive community service while serving as a fearless prosecutor in court. He is the immediate past President of the YMCA, a member of the Board of Directors at the Lilypad Sexual Abuse Center, an active youth coach in baseball and football, and serves the children and NICU patients at Phoebe Hospital with his annual toy drive each Christmas season called Remember the Reason. He is a storm debris chainsaw volunteer with more than 500 hours of volunteer work with Tom Gieryic's Chainsaw Gang, Samaritan's Purse, and Sherwood Disaster Response team.
Responding to murder scenes in Dougherty County from 2014-2022, serving as Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney, being recognized Nationally as a lecturer at the National Gang Conference in Chicago for years, personally interviewing gang leaders and associates, and prosecuting murder cases and seeking justice for the victims has allowed Michael to understand that Albany needs Judges who understand how gang violence is destroying lives.
Having heard firsthand the cries of mothers and family members finding out their loved one has been killed by gangs, seeing the broken and bleeding bodies left in our streets, seeing the lack of Justice for so many victims of crimes from young children through adults has impacted him deeply. Every murder trial Michael promises to the mother of the victims that he will do all that he can do, leave no stone unturned to ensure that the victim has their day in court. He has faithfully kept that promise.
Michael knows that the blood shed in the streets of our town calls for Justice for Albany.
Michael has spent his career fighting for that Justice.
Too many Dougherty residents no longer feel safe at night. Businesses and people are leaving Albany. Things cannot continue on the same path with the same people and have the citizens hope for a different outcome.
We need Judges who will address the backlog of more than 2000 criminal cases and more than 500 civil cases since 2018 .
We need Judges who are experienced in their training and networking around the country who will start a Gang Court Program where young gang members who commit crimes receive an early intervention and are given the opportunities to obtain a GED, obtain employment, perform community service, and to spend time with mentors to show them that they are seen, valued, and respected. Too many gang members are being cast aside instead of being rehabilitated. We need to change how we address the gang problem early on if we want to change our county.
We need Judges that will make sure that victims no longer wait 4 years, 5 years, or even longer for justice.
We need Judges who are renowned for their work ethic. We need Judges who will arrive early and stay late.
We need Judges who have experienced the battles of a courtroom and who have earned firsthand a full understanding of the law.
We need Judges that will treat every person with kindness and respect. Whether victims, defendants, attorneys, police officers, bailiffs, deputies, or courthouse personnel, every person deserves to be treated with dignity.
We need Judges that will faithfully follow the law regardless of personal feelings. Race, gender, national origin, age, and other protected classes of persons should know that they will receive equal treatment under the law.
We need Judges who love our County and understand what is great about Dougherty County yet know what can still be improved in our judicial system . This will be done by bringing in fresh ideas that have been proven to work in other jurisdictions.
If not sure whom to support or vote for, then ask a Police Officer. Ask a Sheriff's Deputy. Ask prosecutors and defense attorneys who deal with the candidates running for election, and then decide what type of person will best act as a servant for Dougherty County and as a servant of Justice.
We need Michael Tabarrok as a Superior Court Judge.
We need Justice for Albany.
